The park is situated at the northern end of Pacific Beach, a short distance south of where the sand beach ends and the rocky promontory of La Jolla begins. There are cliffs to the north and south of Tourmaline Surfing Park, but the park itself lies in Tourmaline Canyon, which cuts down through the cliffs to the beach.
Bird Rock is a seaside neighborhood within the larger community of La Jolla in San Diego, California. It lies on the Pacific Ocean at the southernmost end of La Jolla, just north of Pacific Beach. The mostly residential neighborhood includes homes for 1,400 to 1,500 families, with a commercial district along the main street, La Jolla Boulevard.

Children's Pool Beach (also known as Casa Beach) is a small sandy beach in La Jolla, a community of San Diego, California. Aerial view of the pool, May 2011, with over 200 seals on the beach. The Children's Pool earned its name after the construction of a concrete breakwater in 1931.
The Old Scripps Building overlooks the Pacific coast near the Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Pier on the campus of Scripps Institution of Oceanography.It is set on a terrace about 15 feet (4.6 m) above the shore, and is a relatively nondescript concrete structure, two stories in height, measuring about 50 by 75 feet (15 m × 23 m), with the long axis oriented roughly east–west.
