Injured and tired, Ash tells Pikachu to get inside his Ball, but he once again refuses. Instead, Pikachu defends Ash from the Spearow by summoning a large Thunderbolt that scares them away. As the storm ceases, Ho-Oh flies above and drops a feather called a Rainbow Wing. Ash and Pikachu decide to go and find the Legendary Pokémon.
Ash, Brock and Misty rest in a house occupied by a girl called Lokoko. The original master of the house went missing long before. Brock falls for Lokoko, but Ash and Misty discover she has no reflection in the mirror! The two soon discover that Lokoko is really an illusion created by a Ninetales.
Rudy moves in to court Misty after she helps rescue his younger sister, Mahri. While Ash battles for the Spike Shell Badge, Misty considers the tempting offer to stay on the island with Rudy and Mahri forever. Later, Rudy understands that Misty wants to go with Ash. In the end, Rudy compliments that Ash is lucky before they say their goodbyes.
Ash and friends are reunited with their one-time adversary, Aya, who is continuing devotedly on the path to the Pokémon Jujitsu Academy. Ash and Brock enjoy the special classes, but Misty, because of her phobia of bug-type Pokémon, doesn't.
