DAF 55 Coupe. The DAF 55 is a small family car produced by the Dutch company DAF from December 1967 to September 1972. At that time it was replaced with the DAF 66. [2]All 55s featured the unique Variomatic belt-driven continuously variable transmission, [3] with no manual transmission available.
In 1987, DAF merged with the Leyland Trucks division of Rover Group (which included Freight Rover), and in June 1989 was floated on the Dutch and London Stock Exchanges as DAF NV. [4] The new company traded as Leyland DAF in the United Kingdom, and as DAF elsewhere. DAF Bus was split off in 1990 to become a part of United Bus. [5]
For a time the van Doorne family lived in Eindhoven, but they soon returned to Deurne, and were still living there in 1979 when Hub died. He was buried at the local Jacobshof cemetery where today his body lies in a protected area beside those of his wife and three of his children Anny (1930–2004), Jeffrey (1932–2006) and Piet (1934–1982).

DAF 2 cylinder boxer engine. The DAF Daffodil is an economy small family car that was manufactured by Dutch automaker DAF from 1961 until 1967. [1] Together with the DAF 750, launched at the same time, it replaced the DAF 600. DAFs 750 was essentially the same car but with even fewer luxurious fittings and less chrome trim on the outside.

Truck maker Leyland was sold by the UK government to DAF Trucks of the Netherlands in 1987, UK product subsequently being marketed as Leyland DAF. In 1993 DAF collapsed, the subsequent rescue package not including the UK part of the operation, which following a management buy-out, returned to UK ownership.
