Conestoga Wood Specialties is a manufacturer of wood doors and components for kitchen, bath and furniture, based in East Earl, Pennsylvania. They have five factories, located in Washington, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, employing about 1,200 people.
The company was established by the Scranton Board of Trade as the Scranton Lace Curtain Manufacturing Company in 1890 and was incorporated on June 15, 1897. The name Scranton Lace Company became standardized in 1916 when the Scranton Lace Curtain Manufacturing Company and one of its subsidiaries combined their operations.
Country Curtains was a retail home curtain business founded in 1956 by Jane and Jack Fitzpatrick in Whitman, Massachusetts. They started their business from their dining room table selling unbleached narrow muslin curtains. It was Jack’s idea to sell unbleached muslin ruffled curtains through the mail, reminiscent of their Vermont heritage.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the East Earl CDP has a total area of 0.93 square miles (2.4 km 2), of which 1.6 acres (6,524 m 2), or 0.27%, are water. [4] The community drains northeast and northwest to the Conestoga River and southwest to Mill Creek, a tributary of the Conestoga.
It contains the communities of Union Grove, Weaverland, Goodville, Blue Ball, East Earl, Fetterville, and Cedar Lane. The township surrounds the borough of Terre Hill, a separate municipality. Welsh Mountain, elevation 1,107 feet (337 m), is on the southern border of the township.
As of the census [5] of 2000, there were 6,183 people, 2,019 households, and 1,617 families living in the township. The population density was 281.7 inhabitants per square mile (108.8/km 2).
