The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library is the campus library at the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana. Completed 47 years ago in 1978 on the east side of campus, the five-story library was funded by the U.S. Department of Commerce. In 1979, it was dedicated to Ambassador Mike Mansfield (1903–2001) and his wife Maureen. [1]
The library also contains the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center, which is dedicated to Asian studies, and, like the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation, "advancing understanding and co-operation in US-Asia relations." The Mike Mansfield Federal Building and United States Courthouse in Butte was renamed in his honor in 2002. [36]
The library also has a coffee shop and public space where users can study or read with beverages or food. Other full-size libraries in Missoula include the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library at the University of Montana.
The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation was established in 1983 to "promote understanding and cooperation among the nations and peoples of Asia and the United States." The Foundation honors Mike Mansfield (1903–2001), congressman from Montana, Senate majority leader and U.S. ambassador to Japan.
