The Presbyterian Historical Society was organized on May 20, 1852, at the General Assembly meeting of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. in Charleston, South Carolina. [1] Concerned over the permanent loss of historical records, Old School Board of Education Secretary Cortland Van Rensselaer helped to orchestrate the Society’s creation. [ 5 ]
