Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, [a] often shortened to Ganzi Prefecture, [b] is an autonomous prefecture in the western arm of Sichuan province, China bordering Yunnan to the south, the Tibet Autonomous Region to the west, and Gansu to the north and northwest. Litang County is located in the west of Sichuan, the southwest of Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, between the Jinsha River and the Yalong River on the southeastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The Shaluli Mountains runs from north to south. The terrain is dominated by hill-shaped plateaus and mountain plains.

Sêrtar County or Serthar County (Tibetan: གསེར་ཐར་རྫོང།; Chinese: 色达县) is a county in the northwest of Sichuan Province, China, bordering Qinghai province to the north.
In 2008 the PRC government opened an airport at Kangding in the province of Sichuan, with a 4,000 metres (13,000 ft) runway. At the time this was the second-highest in the world, at 4,280 metres (14,040 ft) above sea level, [ 11 ] [ 12 ] with the highest position held by Qamdo Bamda Airport at 4,400m.
