Island Lake Lodge is a back country tourist resort near Fernie, British Columbia, Canada, just outside the Mount Fernie Provincial Park. The resort covers 7,000 acres (28 km 2) of mountainous terrain. During the winter cat-skiing operation, the land is used primarily by guests of the lodge, who access the lodge by snowcat.
The park has a network of unmaintained trails for hikers or equestrian users. One trail is open to mountain biking. Wilderness backcountry camping and fishing or hunting (with a license) are permitted. Fish habitat is limited by steep terrain, with Itcha Lake supporting populations of rainbow trout and bull trout. There is a Canada Post branch for the community of Denny Island (V0T-1B0) located inside the grocery and liquor store. There is also a laundromat, gift shops, clothing store and gardening store just up the road. There is a small community school with students from grades K–7. There are approximately 100 full-time (and growing) residents.
The lake was named by Captain Richards in 1860 for David Cameron, the first Chief Justice of Vancouver Island. [1] [2] The entire southern shore of the lake is incorporated in the Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park [3] A popular folktale is that a train came crashing down the mountain from the Island Rail Corridor, this however is false.
Upper Campbell Lake is a reservoir on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. The lake was flooded in 1958 for a large hydroelectric project, which raised the water level by 30 metres (98 ft). Crest Creek and headwaters of the Heber River are diverted into the lake. [2]
