A county highway (also county road or county route; usually abbreviated CH or CR) is a road in the United States and in the Canadian province of Ontario that is designated and/or maintained by the county highway department. Route numbering can be determined by each county alone, by mutual agreement among counties, or by a statewide pattern.
In 1918, Wisconsin became the first state to number its highways in the field followed by Michigan the following year. [1] In 1926 the American Association of State Highway Officials (AASHO) established and numbered interstate routes (United States Numbered Highways), selecting the best roads in each state that could be connected to provide a national network of federal highways.

County Road 9 is Rockford Road from County Road 152 in north Minneapolis to State Highway 55 in Plymouth, where it continues beyond Highway 55 as County Road 24. Most of this highway was the original route of Highway 55 until the current Highway 55 between Medina and downtown Minneapolis was built in 1954. [8]
