In 1870 a post office began operating at Granite Falls. [8] The town was platted in 1872 [9] and named for deposits of granite rock in the area. [10] In 1874 the county seat was moved to Granite Falls and a small one courtroom courthouse was erected. In 1876 the Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Congregation was formed and a church was built.
Warnke lived in Wood Lake and owned the Wood Lake News newspaper from 1966 to 1994. He also wrote the column for the Wood Lake Messenger newspaper. Warnke served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1957 to 1966 and was a Democrat. He died from cancer in Granite Falls, Minnesota. The funeral and burial were in Wood Lake. [1] [2]

On September 7, 1908, the weekly became a daily and changed its name to the Gary Tribune. Its founder, J.R. and H.B.
