The band was formed by harsh vocalist Brian Calzini and consisted of clean vocalist Jason Neil, drummer Bobby Scruggs, guitarists John Copeland and bassist Sanders Dukes. After the band self-released their debut EP False Hope , Paddock Park were signed to Eulogy Recordings in Summer 2008.

The band was named for a close friend of the band, who died in a car accident at the age of 17. 'Amity' referred to the friendship and 'Affliction' was to indicate the struggle which dealing with the death caused the band members. Whilst still at High School, the band spent many times playing at school concerts and lunch breaks.
False Start played at the Auckland Big Day Out 2008 on the Local Produce Stage. False Start also did a cover of "4ever" by The Veronicas. In August 2008, False Start released their second studio album named Through The Looking Glass which includes the single "Four Letter Lie". The band opened for Escape The Fate in support of this album.

[18] The final concert for hope was held at Esofea Park in Esofea, Wisconsin. The event was an all day concert an included a picnic and farewell party.
