Swansea is a village in St. Clair County, Illinois. It is a part of the St. Louis metropolitan area and Metro East in southern Illinois. It is surrounded by the communities of Fairview Heights, Belleville, O’Fallon, and Shiloh. The population was 13,430 at the 2010 census, an increase from 10,579 in 2000.
The track was started in the 1930s and opened by Will Thomas on the field, around the same time as the adjacent Tennant Park which was built in 1936 for Skewen RFC. In 1967 the track added a football pitch inside the greyhound circuit and Neath Athletic FC became tenants, changing their name to Skewen Athletic (now called Neath F.C).

Skewen is also the birthplace of internationally successful singer Bonnie Tyler and Welsh composer David John de Lloyd (1883-1948). Comedian Eddie Izzard lived in the village for a short time during childhood. [1] The grandparents of the legendary American entrepreneur Howard Hughes are believed to have lived in Skewen in the 1930s.
Chris Bromham (born 20 July 1957 in Skewen), is a Welsh motorcycle stunt performer.Bromham is the current World Record holder of the motorcycle jump obstacle record, having jumped over 18 double-decker buses (beating the previous record of 14), and in the same jump a new distance record of 208 feet, on 29 August 1983 riding a KTM 500 Motocross at Norman Park, Bromley, England.
