1934 US$1000 bill. The United States 1000 dollar bill (US$1000) is an obsolete denomination of United States currency. It was issued by the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) beginning in 1861 and ending in 1934. Since 1969 Treasury policy is to withdraw any $1000 bills it receives, but it is still legal tender.
The U.S. Dollar has numerous discontinued denominations, particularly high denomination bills, issued before and in 1934 in six denominations ranging from $500 to $100,000. As of May 30, 2009, only 336 $10,000 bills were known to exist, along with 342 $5,000 bills, 165,372 $1,000 bills and fewer than 75,000 $500 bills (of over 900,000 printed).
