"Ma Belle Amie" is a song by Tee-Set, released as a single from the album Ma Belle Amie. It reached No. 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and No. 3 in Australia and Canada in 1970, [2] No. 1 in South Africa, [3] and reached the Top 10 across central Europe.
Tee-Set was a pop rock band formed in 1965 by singer Peter Tetteroo in Delft, Netherlands. The band is best-known for their single "Ma Belle Amie", which was a No. 5 hit in the United States and No. 3 in Canada. The band had a number of other hit songs in the Netherlands, including the number one song "She Likes Weeds".
During a holiday in The Netherlands in 1974, Johnny ended up in discothèque Ma Belle Amie as a DJ. Owner Tee-Set singer/producer Peter Tetteroo discovered Rodrigues and chose to make a single. Everything that was recorded under the name of Johnny & Orquesta Rodrigues was in actual fact played by the Tee-Set band members.
It was released as a special edition set of two 7" vinyl records, limited to 1,050 copies (1,000 retail and 50 promotional) available only in the EU, [3] to extend the copyright of the recordings. These are the only officially released songs featuring guitarist Rado Klose and Juliette Gale, first wife of keyboardist Richard Wright .
