The Gujarat Samachar is the leading Gujarati-language daily newspaper published in India. Its headquarters are in Ahmedabad with a branch in Surat. It is distributed from Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Mumbai, Mehsana, Bhuj and New York City.

Sambhaav was the first media group to enter in online media in Gujarat. Divya Bhaskar was introduced in 2003 by Dainik Bhaskar Group which led to another business war in Gujarati print media. It quickly expanded across Gujarat and took over Saurashtra Samachar based in Bhavnagar in 2004. [17]

It is the brainchild of the doyen of Gujarati media Shreyans Shah [5] who ran the premier Gujarati newspaper Gujarat Samachar. This was the first channel in Gujarat to have an open studio. Today the Channel reaches about 50 lakh households in Gujarat. The Channel is accredited by various authorities of Govt of India and Gujarat Government.
Zaverilal Mehta was associated with Gujarat Samachar from the 1980s onwards. He was popular for documenting the life and times of 13 Chief Ministers of Gujarat state, and his lenses captured incidents such as the 2001 earthquake and the 1998 Kutch cyclone.
He wrote humour columns in Gujarati daily, Gujarat Samachar titled Thoth Nishaliyo and Kakko ne Barakhadi which was the longest run regular column in any daily across India. He also edited international edition of Gujarat Samachar from 1983. He died on 31 August 2006 at Ahmedabad. He was the president of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad when he died.
From 1974 to 1977, he was the Publicity and Public Relations Officer in Citizen's Council, Vadodara. He served as a subeditor in Gujarat Samachar daily from 1983 to 1986. He later served as a subeditor of Loksatta daily. He was an editor of Sangnya and editor of Shabdasrishti (October 1986 - February 1990) magazines. [1] [2]
