Created some new trailer guide-ons yesterday using some basic materials from the local hardware store. My main goals for these guide-ons was: Make trailer more visible when there isn't a boat on it (for retrieval) Help hold the stern in place during moderate winds/currents when retrieving...
I recently purchased a 20' pontoon,no trailer. Rather than buy brand new,I'd like to build one to fit.used ones are hard to find around here. I do have a couple trailers tgat could be re-fit to accept the toon, but then I would not have them for other uses. Is there a site that has toon plans to...
Re: Storing Pontoon on my own property over the winter As you are a 'new boater', I can assume that you will have the same problem next year and every year after. You need a lasting solution. You can purchase a new trailer for a couple thousand dollars, find a used one which are as rare as hen's teeth or build what you need.
Re: building a trailer for pontoon I built a trailer for my 20 ft. toon, or should I say "modified". I was on a very fixed budget and had an idea to use the frame of an RV trailer. The weight was right, it came with 3500 lb. tandem axles, electric brakes and 15" wheels.
Re: Pontoon Cabin I do plan to have the console in the forward part of the cabin. The cabin will have a center door so the wheel and console will go to the right side. I did find a 24' pontoon boat with a center console that was well forward.. but no motor or trailer. But 250 miles away and no trailer.
19' cuddy cabin. I have gotten a lot of good ideas on here from various projects I've seen; of course every boat is different. Can't have a plan until you start in on your own boat. Intent is to get it kind of steep in order to let any rain and snow run off and not build up/puddle on top of it. Empty cockpit, so I have free reign of pole placement.
Re: How I built trailer guide posts (with pics) My beam is also wider than the trailer. Have 1 1/4 inch tubing about 4 foot long on each side. Bend with an electrical conduit tubing bender to about 82* bend radius. Mounted to the inverted U channel of the trailer that runs parallel to the axle with 2 Ubolts per side.
Re: Adding an axel to my pontoon trailer You will likely need to move your existing axle when you add the second one depending on how your tongue weight is now. Likely, the pivot equalizer between the 2 sets of springs will need to be at the location where your current axle is.
This trailer has 3 keel rollers which supports most of the weight (200 lbs, 300 with gear and motor) so the bunks are more for balance than anything. I did find some real bunk brackets localy at a more resonable price
Re: building a hardtop for a pontoon Yes, You CAN! Please check out the parts at academy fence .com I did this to my 24' SLICKCRAFT SS-235 for Great lakes trolling and it has stood the test of time performing flawlessly for 3 seasons now- Get the 1-3/8 or 2" size fittings for the frame part and use stainless steel hardware to bolt it on.
