Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) is an American television comedy series created by Joel Hodgson and originally produced by Best Brains, Inc. The show premiered on KTMA (now WUCW) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on November 24, 1988.
Rhino Home Video released several episodes from the Comedy Channel and Comedy Central eras on VHS from April 1996 to January 2001. As of 2004, all of the tapes are out of print, but all episodes originally released on home video have been released on DVD, either as a single or part of a volume pack except for 309 – The Amazing Colossal Man due to licensing issues with the original movie.
MST3K was listed as one of Time magazine's "100 Best TV Shows of All-TIME" in 2007, and TV Guide has noted MST3K as one of the top cult television shows. The show won a Peabody Award in 1993, [3] was also nominated for two Emmy Awards in 1994 and 1995, and for the CableACE Award from 1992 to 1997.
Mu is a lost continent introduced by Augustus Le Plongeon (1825–1908), who identified the "Land of Mu" with Atlantis.The name was subsequently identified with the hypothetical land of Lemuria by James Churchward (1851–1936), who asserted that it was located in the Pacific Ocean before its destruction. Jack Perkins (Michael J. Nelson) - in real life the host of the A&E Network's Biography program, Perkins first appeared in MST3K simply to annoy the Mads by describing the movie with glowing praise. When MST3K appeared in syndication as The Mystery Science Hour, Nelson's fake "Jack Perkins" hosted the show.

Leplongeon did not believe in a lost Pacific Ocean continent - his lost civilization was in the Yucatan and Central America and extended to Atlantis.
