The airline industry in Mexico began in 1921 with Compañía Mexicana de Transportación Aérea in Mexico City. Later known as Mexicana de Aviación, it was the world's 4th oldest airline, and ceased operations on August 28, 2010. And is set to resume operations late 2023. Aeroméxico is currently Mexico's largest airline.
In 2007, the airline started up operations under its brand name Venezolana. [3] When operations started, Venezolana began to acquire through the years a mixed fleet of used Boeing 737-200 , MD-80s and British Aerospace Jetstream 41s to start more scheduled services to other destinations inside and outside of Venezuela.
Mexicana de Aviación (legally Aerolínea del Estado Mexicano, S.A. de C.V.) [3] is a Mexican state owned airline established on 15 June 2023. It operates under the historical commercial name Mexicana de Aviación after the government acquired the former airline's brands and assets on 9 August 2023.

Mexicana was Mexico's first airline, and North America's oldest airline and the world's fourth oldest airline operating under the same name, after the Netherlands's KLM, Colombia's Avianca, and Australia's Qantas.
On 1 November 1971, Vickers Viscount YV-C-AMZ of Linea Aeropostal Venezolana crashed shortly after take-off. All four people on board were killed. [8] On March 5, 1991, Aeropostal Alas de Venezuela Flight 108 crashed in to a nearby mountain soon after takeoff, killing all 45 passenger and crew. [9]
