Felice Beato (c. 1832 – 29 January 1909), also known as Felix Beato, [note 1] was an Italian–British photographer. He was one of the first people to take photographs in East Asia and one of the first war photographers.
In 1852, Leopoldo Alinari founded a photographic studio. His brothers Giuseppe and Romualdo joined him two years later to establish Fratelli Alinari Fotografi Editori, a photographic workshop dedicated initially to the documentation of notable Italian paintings, sculptures, monuments and architecture.
