Although the spawning times of SRC (sea-run cutthroat if you don't know the acronym) can vary a lot, the general consensus is that most of these fish are currently up in the fresh doing the propagation thing. I've been tossin' flies lately and haven't had too much luck either in the Canal or around the Bremerton area.
What do you think about the current limit of trout on Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish? Is 5 fish too many per day - should the WDFW make it 2 or 3 fish per day on Lake Washington/Lake Sammamish? I'm most curious what you all think. KTK

The other was a cutthroat (or cutthroat/rainbow hybrid) I caught this weekend in Lake Sawyer. I used to think salmon and steelhead had pink flesh because of their diet (i.e., eating krill or animals that had eaten krill in the ocean), but I guess that must not be true. Can anyone explain why some freshwater/landlocked trout have pink flesh?

He was salmon fishing along the shoreline of Vashon Island near the "Girl Scout Camp" which is located on the southwest corner of the island just north of Pt. Dalco.
Don't know much about the Cowlitz cutthroat but it sounds like the fish may have all ready spawned. If the critters in its mouth look somewhat like grains of rice (with a split tail) they were likely parasitic copepod. They are common in trout and salmon, especially fish in lakes or that have spend extend time in the river during the summer.
