Simon Fraser (20 May 1776 – 18 August 1862) was a Canadian explorer and fur trader who charted much of what is now the Canadian province of British Columbia. He also built the first European settlement in British Columbia.

Their father, Sir Andrew Fraser, was the cousin of Simon Fraser (died 1306) who was known as the Patriot and who had been hanged, drawn, and quartered by the English. [1] [2] [3] [a] His father had estates in Caithness but Simon was the first of the family to hold estates in the county of Inverness where he came to hold the estate of Lovat. [2]
