A mnemonic is a memory aid used to improve long-term memory and make the process of consolidation easier. Many chemistry aspects, rules, names of compounds, sequences of elements, their reactivity, etc., can be easily and efficiently memorized with the help of mnemonics.
2 Na (s) + 2 H 2 O (l) →2 NaOH (aq) + H 2 (g) Metals in the middle of the reactivity series, such as iron, will react with acids such as sulfuric acid (but not water at normal temperatures) to give hydrogen and a metal salt, such as iron(II) sulfate: Fe (s) + H 2 SO 4 (l) → FeSO 4 (aq) + H 2 (g) There is some ambiguity at the borderlines ...
The activity series for halogens is: [1] [2] [3] F 2 > Cl 2 > Br 2 > I 2 {\displaystyle {\ce {F2>Cl2>Br2>I2}}} Due to the free state nature of A {\displaystyle {\ce {A}}} and B {\displaystyle {\ce {B}}} , single displacement reactions are also redox reactions, involving the transfer of electrons from one reactant to another. In one study [2] the reactivity of two different free radical species (A, sulfur, B carbon) towards addition to simple alkenes such as acrylonitrile, vinyl acetate and acrylamide was examined. The sulfur radical was found to be more reactive (6*10 8 vs. 1*10 7 M −1 .s −1 ) and less selective (selectivity ratio 76 vs 1200) than the carbon ...
The Group 1 metal (M) is oxidised to its metal ions, and water is reduced to hydrogen gas (H 2) and hydroxide ion (OH −), giving a general equation of: 2 M(s) + 2 H 2 O(l) 2 M + (aq) + 2 OH − (aq) + H 2 (g) [8] The Group 1 metals or alkali metals become more reactive as their number of energy levels inceases.
Oxygen (1s 2 2s 2 2p 4), fluorine (1s 2 2s 2 2p 5), and neon (1s 2 2s 2 2p 6) then complete the already singly filled 2p orbitals; the last of these fills the second shell completely. [ 39 ] [ 58 ] Starting from element 11, sodium , the second shell is full, making the second shell a core shell for this and all heavier elements.
Within the field of geology, Bowen's reaction series is the work of the Canadian petrologist Norman L. Bowen, [1] who summarized, based on experiments and observations of natural rocks, the sequence of crystallization of common silicate minerals from typical basaltic magma undergoing fractional crystallization (i.e. crystallization wherein early-formed crystals are removed from the magma by ...
I have noticed that there are a lot of metals (Beryllium, Barium, Radium, Gallium, Bismuth and a whole lot of transition metals to name just a few) that are not part of the Reactivity Series. I say we try to expand the Reactivity Series to include more elements. 86.157.96.38 22:55, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
