Honda Manufacturing of Indiana (HMIN), also called Indiana Auto Plant (IAP), is a car production factory located in Greensburg, Indiana. It builds vehicles for Honda sales in North America . It was founded on March 19, 2007, for the 25th anniversary of the company's own automobile production in the United States .
It was introduced in 1993 for the 1994 model year as Honda's first entry into the growing SUV market of the 1990s in the United States. The first and second generation Passport was manufactured by Subaru Isuzu Automotive in Lafayette, Indiana. Like various other Honda models, it re-used a name from their motorcycle division, the Honda C75 Passport.
Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. (often abbrevriated as SIA) is an automobile assembly plant in Lafayette, Indiana, United States, which began as "Subaru-Isuzu Automotive, Inc.", a joint venture between Subaru Corporation and Isuzu Motors Ltd. [2] Today, the plant is a wholly owned subsidiary of Subaru Corporation which produces the Ascent, Crosstrek, Legacy and Outback models.
In early 2002, Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru's parent company) bought Isuzu's share of Lafayette, Indiana plant, and Subaru Isuzu Automotive (SIA) became Subaru of Indiana Automotive. After eight years of heavy Honda Passport sales and light Isuzu Oasis sales, Honda and Isuzu cooperatively ended their vehicle exchange agreement in 2001.
