Lawrence's Downtown Historic District comprises the commercial core of Lawrence, Kansas. The district comprises areas along Massachusetts Street between 6th Street and South Park Street. Nearly all of the contributing structures are masonry commercial buildings, typically with display windows at street level and smaller windows at upper levels.

The lake is contained within the bounds of Lake Roland Park, which was established in the 1920s and supervised by the newly organized Baltimore City Department of Parks and Recreation. [ 8 ] [ 9 ] The lake is an artificial impoundment created by a dam on the Jones Falls and two smaller streams, Towson Run and Roland Run.

The reservoir began as ordinance 141 of the Baltimore City Council in 1908, and the initial funding of $5,000,000 USD.The dam was constructed between 1912 and 1914 and when completed its crest was 188 feet (57 m) above mean sea level, and 51 feet (16 m) from the original valley floor.

Founded by Jabez B. Watkins, the bank would last until 1929. Watkin's wife Elizabeth donated the bank building to the city to use as a city hall. By 1970, City Hall had moved to a new location and after extensive renovations, the Watkins Building reopened in 1975 as the Elizabeth M. Watkins Community Museum.
