In 1981, Pasco County chartered its own library commission and began operating and maintaining the library under a no-cost lease. In 1988, the City Commission of Dade City sold the library to the county for $150,000. In 1991, the library was expanded by funds raised through a tax approved in 1986. [11]
The New River Branch Library is a public library that primarily serves the Wesley Chapel, Florida area, and is one of eight libraries that are part of Pasco County's overall library system, the Pasco County Library Cooperative. It is currently located at 34043 State Road 54, Zephyrhills, Florida. The library opened on October 31, 1991. [1] [2]

The Calhoun County Library System subsequently joined the Panhandle Public Library Cooperative System in October 1992. [9] By 1992, three more counties withdrew from the system; Washington and Holmes county, and the Lynn Haven library. Holmes County would join Calhoun and Jackson County in the PPLCS. [10]

New River Public Library Cooperative is a three county public library cooperative in north central Florida. The libraries in Baker, Bradford and Union Counties are members. [1] Established in 1996, New River Public Library Cooperative supports and enhances public library services in the three county area.
