Fullerton Station opened in 1900 as an express/local stop on the Northwestern Elevated Railroad. The ninth and final segment is the longest section of Fullerton Avenue, being 7.9 miles (12.71 km) long. At Chicago's western border, the straight road at 2400N (which otherwise would be Fullerton) is instead signed as Grand Avenue, which runs from the city border at Harlem eastward to just west of Natchez Avenue, where it breaks the grid and becomes diagonal.
A streetcar service ran on Fullerton Avenue from Halsted Street to Milwaukee Avenue starting in 1895, being extended west to Pulaski in 1909. A further extension west to Cicero took place on September 9, 1914, and to Long Avenue via shuttle absorption on October 21, 1918, and was finally extended to Central Avenue on October 10, 1928. [8]
