An image sometimes includes a familiar object to communicate scale. Such fiducial markers should be as culturally universal and standardized as possible: rulers, matches, batteries, pens/pencils, footballs (soccer balls), people and their body parts, vehicles, and famous structures such as the Eiffel Tower are good choices, but many others are possible.
image is the name of the image, abc.jpg, xpz.png, 123.gif, etc. Do not include the File: or Image: prefix, do not enclose the name in [[brackets]], but do remember to include the filename extension. image_upright should normally be left blank, so that the size defaults to the size set in a user's preferences.

Since most JPEGs in Wikipedia will be rescaled anyway before appearing on pages, a quality setting of 95 is appropriate. (Settings above 95 increase size dramatically for little improvement in image quality.) JPEG compression works better on slightly blurred images, so don't sharpen the images too much as it will result in a higher footprint.
