Nambour is 101 kilometres (63 mi) north of the state capital, Brisbane.The town lies in the sub-tropical hinterland of the Sunshine Coast at the foot of the Blackall Range It was the administrative centre and capital of the Maroochy Shire and is now the administrative centre of the Sunshine Coast Region.
The Sunshine Coast contains a number of urban centres, each with a contiguous urban area and a central business district, which for planning and amenity purposes are maintained on separate plans by the Regional Council and treated as discrete sub-regions by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Nambour and Maleny have developed as primary commercial centres for the hinterland. Since 2014, the Sunshine Coast district has been split into two local government areas, the Sunshine Coast Region and the Shire of Noosa, which administer the southern and northern parts of the Sunshine Coast respectively.

Nambour–Bli Bli Road is a continuous 8.1-kilometre (5.0 mi) road route in the Sunshine Coast local government area of Queensland, Australia. It is signed as State Route 10. [ 1 ] It is a state-controlled district road (number 130), rated as a local road of regional significance (LRRS).
Gubbi Gubbi (Kabi Kabi, Cabbee, Carbi, Gabi Gabi) is an Australian Aboriginal language spoken on Gubbi Gubbi country. The Gubbi Gubbi language region includes the landscape within the local government boundaries of the Sunshine Coast Region and Gympie Region, particularly the towns of Caloundra, Noosa Heads, Gympie and extending north towards Maryborough and south to Caboolture.
The Blackall Range dominates the hinterland area of the Sunshine Coast, west of Nambour. Maleny, Mapleton, Montville and Flaxton are the main settlements located on the range. The Stanley River rises from the southern slopes. Baroon Pocket Dam is a reservoir on Obi Obi Creek which drains the north west slopes of the range.
