The women's basketball team at NC State had its beginnings in 1974. Under first head coach Robert "Peanut" Doak, [2] North Carolina State won the first game it played 57–45 over the Virginia Cavaliers on December 7, 1974, en route to an 11–4 final record.

The 2024–25 NC State Wolfpack women's basketball team will represent North Carolina State University during the 2024–25 NCAA Division I women's basketball season.The Wolfpack will be led by twelfth-year head coach Wes Moore and will play their home games at Reynolds Coliseum as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
In 1975, Yow became NC State's first full-time women's basketball coach and also coached women's volleyball and softball. She led the women's basketball team to an ACC championship in the first season of league play in 1978. [3] On January 11, 2001, she reached the 600-win milestone for her career with a 71–64 win over Temple University. [4]
During her four seasons as an assistant coach, NC State compiled a 110–17 (55–11 ACC) record, earned four top-10 final rankings and reached the Sweet 16 in 2019 and 2021 and the Elite Eight in 2022. She also helped the Wolfpack to three consecutive ACC women's basketball tournament championships from 2020 to 2022. [12]
