The community was named after John Roe, an immigrant from Ireland who settled on 267 acres (1.08 km 2) in 1883, on part of which Roeland Park now stands. The Roe Home was built in 1891 and razed in 1958 to make room for the interchange at Roe Boulevard and Shawnee Mission Parkway.
Bishop Miege High School was established in 1958 by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas and was named after Bishop John Baptiste Miege, the first bishop of the Kansas Territory, which eventually became the current Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas.

Robinson-Earl played his first three years of high school basketball for Bishop Miege High School in Roeland Park, Kansas. As a freshman in 2015–16, he started in all 25 games and averaged 12.4 points to help his team to a 22–3 record. As a sophomore in 2016–17, his team finished with a 22–3 slate.
