The Society Islands (French: Îles de la Société [il də la sɔsjete], [2] [3] officially Archipel de la Société [aʁʃipɛl də la sɔsjete]; [4] [5] Tahitian: Tōtaiete mā) [6] are an archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean that includes the major islands of Tahiti, Moʻorea, Raiatea, Bora Bora and Huahine.
Tourism through cruise ship passengers calling at the atoll and the airport is another important economic sector. One of the famous attractions on Huahine is a bridge that crosses over a stream with 0.9-to-1.8 m (3-to-6 ft) long freshwater eels. These eels are deemed sacred by the locals, by local mythology.
