English Studies is a peer-reviewed academic journal covering the language, literature, and culture of the English-speaking world from the Anglo-Saxon to the present day. The editor-in-chief is Chris Loutitt (Radboud University Nijmegen). [1] The journal was established in 1919 and is published by Routledge.
RES is a "leading scholarly journal of English literature and the English language" whose critical "[e]mphasis is on historical scholarship rather than interpretative criticism, though fresh readings of authors and texts are also offered in light of newly discovered sources or new interpretation of known material."
It is the official journal of the European Society for the Study of English. The current editors-in-chief are Greta Olson, Katerina Kitsi-Mitakou, Isabela Carrera Suárez, and Frederik van Dam. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] The journal appears three times a year and the individual issues are devoted to specific topics, e.g.:
English studies is taught in a wide variety of manners, but one unifying commonality is that students engage with an English-language text in a critical manner. However, the methods of teaching a text, the manner of engaging with a text, and the selection of texts are all widely-debated subjects within the English studies field. [1]
