Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provided healthcare for people in south west Essex, in the East of England.There were two hospitals in the trust, a specialist cardiothoracic centre and one clinical centre: Basildon University Hospital, Orsett Hospital, The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre [2] and Billericay St. Andrew's Centre.
The hospital was built by Sir Lindsay Parkinson & Company, [1] and opened in 1973. [2] [3] Facilities which it replaced included St. Andrew's Hospital in Billericay which subsequently became a regional plastic surgery and rehabilitation unit. [4]
The trust was established on 1 April 2020 following the merger of three existing NHS trusts: Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust and Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. [3] An initial merger between the 3 trusts was first agreed in January 2018. [4]
