The 2015 NRL Grand Final was the conclusive and premiership-deciding game of the 2015 NRL season and was played on Sunday 4 October at Sydney's ANZ Stadium between the Brisbane Broncos and North Queensland Cowboys. [1]

On 4 October 2015, O'Neill was a member of the Cowboys' Grand Final winning side. He scored a try in his side's 17–16 victory over the Brisbane Broncos. At the end of the year he was named the club's most improved player.

On 26 September 2015, North Queensland qualified for their second grand final defeating the Melbourne Storm, 32–12. In the Grand Final , they defeated the Brisbane Broncos , 17–16. Thurston, who won the Clive Churchill Medal , kicked the winning field goal in golden point to win North Queensland's their first ever premiership.
