The university's Bloemfontein Campus is near the city centre. The university also has three campuses. Two are situated in Bloemfontein, referred to as the Bloemfontein Campus and the South Campus, and the other in the former homeland QwaQwa that was, until 2003, part of the University of the North.
MIRAE campus operates 7 houses and the residential college campus in Songdo operates 12 houses. There is another residential college in GIST(Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology) College at Gwangju, South Korea. GIST College has gained positive outcomes in undergraduate students' dormitory life as well as university life as a whole.

Day students are associated with Carey (grades 1 to 6) and Webb (grades 7 to 12) Houses. Its sister school is St. Michael's School , a girls' school which is located nearby in Bloemfontein . The school is the second oldest in Bloemfontein, behind Grey College and is amongst the oldest in the country.
