The BBC News channel is a British free-to-air [1] public broadcast television news channel owned and operated by the BBC.The channel is based at and broadcasts from Broadcasting House in the West End of London from which it is anchored during British daytime, with overnight broadcasts anchored from Washington, D.C. and Singapore. This service was discontinued during and following the First World War, between 1914 and June 1921, and again during the Second World War between 1939 and 1945. [3] The programme was first broadcast on the radio on 1 January 1924, then called Weather Shipping. From October 1925, it has been broadcast by the BBC. [4]
