A Huaorani village in Ecuador. The Waorani , Waodani , or Huaorani , also known as the Waos , are an Indigenous people from the Amazonian Region of Ecuador ( Napo , Orellana , and Pastaza Provinces ) who have marked differences from other ethnic groups from Ecuador.
She lived with Quechua Indians and American missionaries. Dayuma was helpful in teaching the Waorani language to the missionaries. Dayuma was the first known Waorani to convert to Christianity. She eventually moved back to live with her people along with Rachel Saint and Elisabeth Elliot. [citation needed]
