The Rider Broncs men's basketball team is the NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's basketball program that represents Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, United States. The school's team currently competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), which it joined in 1997, and plays their home games at Alumni Gymnasium .
Simmons was born and raised in Lawrenceville, Illinois, and attended Lawrenceville High School, graduating in 1983.While attending high school, Simmons led the Indians to consecutive 34–0 seasons and Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class A state championships, becoming one of the most celebrated players in Illinois prep history.
Lawrenceville is located in southeast Illinois, northwest of Vincennes, Indiana. The city is home of the Lawrenceville "Indians", Illinois Class A high school state basketball champions in 1972, 1974, 1982 and 1983. The team had a combined two season win–loss record of 68-0 from 1982–83.
