Elinor Catherine Hamlin, AC, FRCS, FRANZCOG, FRCOG (née Nicholson; 24 January 1924 – 18 March 2020) was an Australian obstetrician and gynaecologist who, with her husband, New Zealander Reginald Hamlin, co-founded the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital, the world's only medical centre dedicated exclusively to providing free obstetric fistula repair surgery to poor women with childbirth injuries. The hospital was founded by Australian physicians Catherine Hamlin and Reginald Hamlin, to care for women with childbirth injuries. [1] It is the only hospital of its kind dedicated exclusively to treating women with obstetric fistula, a condition in the developing world where maternal health provisions are poor.
Also in 2008, Thomson/Reuters named Saint Thomas Heart to its list of top 100 cardiovascular community hospitals. [3] In 2010, the cardiologists and heart surgeons at St. Thomas West Hospital and Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital joined under the parent company Saint Thomas Heart. Both groups of physicians still practice separately at each hospital.
Saint Thomas Hospital was opened in Nashville by the Daughters of Charity. The hospital officially began receiving patients on April 11, 1898. It moved to its current campus, some 4 miles (6.4 km) west of the original, in 1972. [13] The hospital expanded as the city's health care needs grew.
