Mesa (/ ˈ m eɪ s ə / MAY-sə) is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States.It is the third-most populous city in Arizona, after Phoenix and Tucson, the 36th-most populous city in the U.S., and the most populous city that is not a county seat (except for independent cities Washington, D.C. and Baltimore which are not part of any county).

Mesa takes over irrigation system operation within incorporated city limits; 1915 – Mesa installs sanitary sewer system and septic tank tract at Riverview; 1917 – Mesa purchases existing gas and electric utilities from Dr. A.J. Chandler; 1921 – Mesa Welfare League founded. 1923 – Mesa Tribune newspaper begins publication. [2]

Maricopa is also served by Arizona State Route 238, which connects Maricopa to the town of Mobile, which is incorporated into the city of Goodyear. Past Mobile, State Route 238 becomes a county route that connects to Arizona State Route 85 in Gila Bend. State Route 238 and Mobile Road designations are used interchangeably.

The Salt River Project (SRP) encompasses two separate entities: the Salt River Project Agricultural Improvement and Power District, an agency of the state of Arizona that serves as an electrical utility for the Phoenix metropolitan area, and the Salt River Valley Water Users' Association, a utility cooperative that serves as the primary water provider for much of central Arizona.
Mesa is the home of Boeing's sixth largest site where it assembles the Apache Longbow attack helicopter and the A160 Hummingbird unmanned aerial vehicle helicopter. [15] Boeing will test the unmanned helicopter in restricted aerospace near the town of Florence, a short distance south of the East Valley. [15]
