The LANL Research Library is a research library at Los Alamos National Laboratory. It contains a substantial collection of books, journals, databases, patents along with technical reports. Additionally it offers literature searching, training, and outreach services .
The UC/Bechtel led corporation—Los Alamos National Security, LLC (LANS)—was pitted against a team formed by the University of Texas System partnered with Lockheed-Martin. In December 2005, the Department of Energy announced that LANS had won the next seven-year contract to manage and operate the laboratory.
The library started in 1943 as a subscription library, after the donation of $5 by 70 families living in Los Alamos. In 1945 it became free and open to all. In 1985 [1] a branch library opened in White Rock. In 1994 the Los Alamos branch moved into its current building designed by architect Antoine Predock [1] and located west of Fuller Lodge.
The Alamo Area Library System (AALS) is one of ten public library systems in the U.S. state of Texas. It consists of 46 member libraries located in 21 counties that surround the city of San Antonio and Bexar County .
The lab at Livermore was intended to spur innovation and provide competition to the nuclear weapon design laboratory at Los Alamos in New Mexico, home of the Manhattan Project that developed the first atomic weapons.
