Cathedral Preparatory School (often referred to simply as Prep) is a private, Roman Catholic, college-preparatory high school for girls and boys in Erie, Pennsylvania, United States. It was established in 1921 by Archbishop John Mark Gannon and is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie .
The Benedictine Sisters of Erie began the first Catholic high school for women in the city of Erie, St. Benedict Academy. The school opened in 1869 with one teacher, two students and a tuition of $1/month. The curriculum consisted of Christian Doctrine, English, Sacred History, Drawing, Music and Embroidery.

Villa Maria Academy was a private, Roman Catholic high school in Erie, Pennsylvania. It was in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie. Gannon University was first established in 1933 as the two-year Cathedral College by the Diocese of Erie under the leadership of Joseph J. "Doc" Wehrle. [2] In 1944, the school became the four-year men's school Gannon College of Arts and Sciences, named in honor of the then-Bishop of Erie, John Mark Gannon, the driving force behind its opening and development.
