Its southern terminus is located at the Pennsylvania state line south of the town of Vestal in Broome County , where it becomes Pennsylvania Route 267 (PA 267).
The Thousand Islands Border Crossing connects the towns of Alexandria Bay, New York and Ivy Lea, Ontario at the Thousand Islands Bridge. It is the westernmost of the three St. Lawrence River crossings, and is very busy, with up to two-hour waits in the summer. [8] The US border station at Alexandria Bay is sometimes called Thousand Islands.
In 1908, the New York State Legislature created Route 27, an unsigned legislative route that initially extended from Forestport to Alexandria Bay via Boonville, Lowville, and Watertown. From Boonville to Lowville, Route 27 used what is now NY 12D and NY 26.
