O'Neill Regional Park is a major regional park and greenway in eastern Orange County, California, United States, located along Trabuco Creek and Live Oak Canyon. The park encompasses 4,500 acres (1,800 ha) of canyon and riparian zone habitat, and includes campgrounds and trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. [2]
The first known image of the area was an oil painting done by James Walker in 1870 called Roping the Bear at Santa Margarita Rancho, which depicts Mexican vaqueros capturing a grizzly bear. Later, Canadian immigrant Vital Reche settled here with his family just north of Alvarado's ranch at the site now known as Live Oak Park.
The Airport Fire was a wildfire that burned 23,526 acres (9,521 ha) in the Santa Ana Mountains in Southern California in September and October 2024. [1] [2] The fire destroyed 160 structures in Orange and Riverside counties and caused 21 non-fatal injuries. At its peak, 20,780 structures were threatened by the fire.

Rancho Santa Margarita y Las Flores was a 133,440-acre (540.0 km 2) Mexican land grant in present-day northwestern San Diego County, California, given by Governor Juan Alvarado in 1841 to Andrés Pico and Pío Pico. [2] The grant was located along the Pacific coast, and encompassed present-day San Onofre State Beach and Camp Pendleton.
