The college was founded in 1879 as South Eastern College (colours: gold and black). The name was changed in September 1906 [1] because of its location in the St Lawrence area of Ramsgate. New colours were also given: maroon and white. The school rapidly outgrew the single house, leading to the main building of the present day college by 1884.

St Augustine's Abbey or Ramsgate Abbey is a former Benedictine abbey in Ramsgate. [1] It was built in 1860 by Augustus Pugin and is a Grade II listed building. It was the first Benedictine monastery to be built in England since the Reformation. [2] In 2010, the monks moved to St Augustine's Abbey in Chilworth, Surrey.

The original St George's School opened in Ramsgate in 1841. [2] In September 1967, St George's Girls C of E School moved from Ramsgate to a new building in Broadstairs near Dane Court Grammar School, with St George's Boys School moving to the site in 1973, after the construction of more facilities.
