Hog Hammock is an African-American community on Sapelo Island, a barrier island of the U.S. state of Georgia. The island is near the port of Darien, Georgia about 45 miles (72 km) south of Savannah. [2] The entire 427-acre (173 ha) community was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996 as Hog Hammock Historic District.
Blackbeard island is accessible only by boat. Transportation to the island is not provided by the Fish and Wildlife Service. A public boat ramp on Harris Neck NWR (Barbour River Landing) may also be used as a launching site for trips to the island. [6] The island consists of interconnecting linear dunes thickly covered by oak/palmetto vegetation.

It consists of 2,762 acres (11.18 km 2) of saltwater marsh, grassland, mixed deciduous woods, and cropland located on an abandoned military airfield in McIntosh County, Georgia, north of the intersection of Route 131 and Harris Neck Airport Road, about 30 miles (48 km) southwest of Savannah, Georgia.
