The Missouri Attorney General is the attorney for the state, representing the legal interests of Missouri and its state agencies. As the state's chief legal officer, the attorney general must prosecute or defend all appeals to which the state is a party, including every felony criminal case appealed to the Supreme Court of Missouri and Missouri Court of Appeals.

Eric Schmitt. Eric Stephen Schmitt[1] (born June 20, 1975) is an American lawyer and politician serving as the junior United States senator from Missouri since 2023. A member of the Republican Party, Schmitt served as the 43rd Missouri Attorney General from 2019 to 2023. From 2005 to 2008, Schmitt was an alderman for Glendale, Missouri. [2]

It was held concurrently with the presidential election, along with elections to the United States Senate and United States House of Representatives, as well as various state and local elections.
Missouri Attorney General John Danforth, who was then in his second term, hired Ashcroft as an assistant state attorney general. During his service, Ashcroft shared an office with future U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas (and, in 2001, Justice Thomas administered Ashcroft's oath of office as U.S. attorney general).
