Painting cars : r/projectzomboid. I understand that you would never paint a car with regular house paint IRL but I think it would be cool for the purposes of the game to be paint vehicles different colors. This would also apply for painting over the rusted out look that some cars get along the undercarriage.
Volvos paint process used to be much better than it is today. I think that’s the case for any car manufacturer though. I believe the 850 used single stage paint, meaning the clear coat is mixed in with the base coat, not clear on top of the base. Watch some videos on polishing single stage paint and see what you can do.
To be clear, I'm not talking about "regular" gray cars that were so popular in the last decade or so, or silver cars. This color is more of a taupe-y gray, and there is no "sparkle" to it. After looking at some automotive websites, I see that Ford calls it "cactus gray", Kia calls it "ceramic silver" and Audi calls it "nardo grey".
The obvious answer here is to paint barcodes on your car. Get some laser toner and mix it with a flat black paint. Basically iron ferrite as another poster mentioned. The iron content needs to be sufficient to absorb enough RF from the radar emitter that any return signal is too weak to process.
I have paint corrected cars that were ceramic coated (from dealer) that just looked absolutely terrible. I mean you could not fuck the paint up anymore than whoever applied the coating. Genuine ceramic coatings can be costly but are applied in a different way than your “spray ceramic” that the tech used to coat your car.
Medibang is an art program and works great if you have a drawing tablet. I use that if I wanna make intricate patterns (Think Ken Block’s new graffiti livery). Gimp does things a little different to Photoshop but accepts my drawing pad better so I use it if I need to edit AND draw. If I had to recommend one, it’s Gimp.
Start off looking for a paint prep job working with a good painter. Don’t be afraid to move to a different shop if the painter isn’t teaching and training you. A good way to find a quality painter to work with is to go to local car shows. Look for the best paint jobs. Ask them where they got their paint done and go apply there.
No. I’d much rather wrap a car in xpel stealth than go factory matte. This is the correct answer. Given the matte paint is probably a big upcharge and in limited colors, just pick whatever color you want and put the $$$ towards a full xpel stealth PPF, and bam, easy to maintain matte paint.
Paint: Whatever basecoat you want. Bodywork -Stud Gun -Lead or Steel Hammer -Body Filler (Evercoat is great) -Guidecoat. I'm too lazy to go through the step by step but there are good resources out there. Google "Eastwood how to paint your car in 4 easy steps".
The spray paint method is hard to keep from getting streaks, so I would suggest getting a cheap spray gun from Harbor Freight (I got a ~$50 Husky gun from Lowes) and get a gallon of Rustoleum and mix it 50/50 with acetone. It all reality, that method would probably cost more towards $200 for everything (tape, containers, sandpaper, etc) but ...
