I did some additional testing. The speeds I get with speedtest.net vary depending on what browser i use. But the max speeds are 600-700mbps up and down. The speeds I get with dropbox, regardless of what browser i use or if i use the desktop app, always top out at around 30mbps. So, basically 5% of my maximum speed.
Basically, if they shared a folder with you, you can upload files into it up to the limit of your own space. To send them a file that's larger than your space, just have them send you a File Request instead. You don't need an account to send a file through a request. If they're a Basic user, there's a 2GB limit files sent through a request.
11-04-2023 03:54 PM. I've begun to experience this recently: 1: Uploads to dropbox are (as of about one week ago) consistently around 0.14 Mbps. This happens through desktop or web interface. For perspective, that's a 300 baud modem from 1984 kind of speed. It renders me unable to work using dropbox.
I ned to cancel the upload as the upload speed in incredibly poor here. I may have committed the mistake of erasing the files in question from the dropbox queue (to no effect). I read one should rather click and drag them out of the dropbox window but there are no files anymore. Still, the uppload continues.

The desktop app syncs the data in your account with a local Dropbox folder on your computer that was created when you installed the app. To upload the file via the app, you can move this file into the Dropbox folder on your computer.
