Historically, Saberforge has had a bit of a track record of weaker customer service, electronics, and long lead times. All 3 have seen slight improvements especially this year. They're changing their inventory model to only display hilts as in stock on the site when they actually have the physical hilts machined and anodized.
(sorry for crappy writing, typing this on my phone) I've had 3 from Saberforge so far and have a 4th on the way. They're definitely a mixed bag. Thank have a large selection of Hilts. Some original designs and some fairly accurate replicas. Unless you're a hard core fan you won't notice the inaccuracies. Hilts themselves are pretty high quality.
Saberforge's installs of the electronics, regardless of the quality of the individual components, is their downfall. Their installs are iffy at best, shoddy at worst. Thinking a 3D game engine for web, I use Unreal and an older version supports web, it looks good and would likely be smoother than the last builder. If anyone from saberforge sees this and is interested in doing a deal, it would likely only take a month or so to build once work commences, even if models need creating from scratch too.
Also prices are basically the same $300-500 for saberforge, 300-500 for entry level vv or ldm. You're probably right, I need to really try for myself...but it's a $300 trial. It can be really expensive, especially if you are determined to jump in and get the best of everything.
